WATERCOLOUR SERIES
METHOD:
I start traditionally by drawing my image with pencil on watercolour paper . Next, I paint the areas I want preserved in white with masking fluid. I often deliberately leave pencil marks. Then I paint my colour. I am focussing on using indigo in this series to explore monochromatic values. I might add a highlight of another colour and some ink. The masking fluid is then removed to reveal the finished painting. Then the painting is mounted on either canvas or board using archival molding paste. I cover them with several layers of Cold Wax, waiting at least 24 hours between coats. Finally, I burnish the wax with a soft cloth until it has a sheen. This process “encapsulates” the watercolours and makes them impervious to water, dust etc., making it unnecessary to cover them with glass.
Paintings are available ready to hang, framed in black or white matte painted, solid
wood frames (8.25”x6.25”x1.25”)
